Pagan doesn't equal partisan

In my line of work, the politics of the world can play a fairly important role in guessing what the 'bad guys' of the world are trying to think of doing next. As a result, we get into quite a few politcal discussions revolving around military action, social reform, heck, even taxes creeps in there.

One day, recently, the topic of religion, one of the three things not to be brought up in the workplace (sex, religion and politics) and everyone was making the assumption that since I worked for the governement/military I must be a republican or at least a conservative. When I told people that I'm not anything, they looked at me funny, but shrugged it off and we continued the conversation.

A little later, religions were brought up and I stated, without any particular emphasis, that I was a pagan, but had read all the holy books they were talking about. Very soon after, comments about my politcal affiliation began stating that I must be a Democrat or liberal or progressive or whatever other terms they use to describe leftist in America.

I politely corrected them by telling them that I'm not partisan, I think the politcal party system in this country is more corrupt and perverted than the tax code and that, if anything, I was American with the motto: America first, but not at the exclusion of the world. I told them that I thought the Repubs. had some good ideas and some awful ones, and that I felt the same about the Dem's.  I told them that even the Libertarians had some good ideas, but no one hears them because the two big parties are afraid of losing power. Heck, they lock some of their own members out of debates because they're afraid the American people will like what those ones have to say!

After that, I got a lot of attention and was asked all kinds of questions about every political topic there is, mainly the war. I told them that war itself is wrong and doesn't solve things, but it can, in some cases, get people in the negotiating mood. I told them I felt that if Iraqies really want freedom, they've had 30 years to revolt against Saddam or move, its how America was started in the first place. I left them with a few facts they rolled around in there heads and eventually agreed that pagan or not, Thor has his politcal act together. So here are the little tid bits for everyone to roll around:

  1. The United States funded and trained a significant portion of Al Qaeda in the late 70's early 80's before it really was known as that, and before it really a terrorist cell. Thats why the networks had their pictures within weeks fo Sept 11th. (I'm not talking about the hijackers here)

  2. Rudolph Guliani recieved a phone call in Bldg #7 45 minutes before the first tower fell telling him it was going to collapse and that he should vacate the area.

  3. Bldg #7 was "pulled"--a demolition term meaning to bring down a buildling with demolition charges--five hours after the towers came down. However, it takes several days to plan and install demolition charges into a building of that size. That means there had been a plan to bring down that building before the towers we hit. The problem with that is that it was still a functioning building with lots of poeple still going to work, you don't line a building with charges while its in use, there is a lot of pre-demolition work done, taking weeks in a bldg that size. Summary, somthing isn't being told to the people about what happened on Spt 11th.

  4. There is not a single second of news footage or still photography showing a single ounce of commerical airplane debris at the Pentagon "crash site". This site doens't follow the pattern of an airplane crash site. It has no debree, the ground in front of the pentgon is unscathed, the impact point on the Pentagon Bldg itself isn't big enough for a plane to make, and finally, there is a blast exit hole out the back end of the third ring of offices and its a perfect circle cut through steel and concrete and planes don't do that. Lastly, several frames of footage available to the public should the impact into the Pentagon, and there is no way its a commercial jet of the dimensions of what is reported to have hit it.

  5. Understand that yes, I think something more happened than what we are being told, but I don't think the Bush Administration would intentionally slam planes into the WTC towers to pass another Patriot Act. The problem I have is that since it occurred, more legislation has passed tht limits the basic and civil rights of US citizens than in our history. If you want know more about, comment on this post and I'll give put here what I know and can tell you.

I'm not really a conspiracy theorist, but we havn't been givne all the facts about the above incidients and I'm afraid of that.

Me...I didn't pick a party. I'll be perfectly honest. I voted against John Kerry #1- because he can't seem to make up his damn mind ("I voted for it before I voted against it.......WTF!), #2- I'm sorry....I don't trust any man that gets botox....*shudders*.....#3- I'm prolife except in extreme circumstances.....& #4- his statements that he understood how the poor and low-income people felt just really touched a raw nerve with me. I mean, he was born into money and married a woman with even more money. He's never known what it was like to worry that you won't be able to feed your children or provide them with the necessities they need. Granted, neither did the other candidates...but I'd rather have a president with some callouses on his hands rather than a perfectly buffed manicure.

*steps off soapbox*

thor, as an australian i know only a little of american politics, but i also, from various things i have read about sept. 11  think that there is more that happened there then the public will ever know, and i agree that we dont know all the facts, and it does worry me, i have a lot of `why`s ` that have`nt been answered, but i do believe that 9/11 gave bush the opening he was looking for to enter iraq, even though everyone knows saddam hussain had nothing to do with 9/11

this is all just my opinion
