Have you seen it? I'm talking about the one that just recently was made. It stars Clive Owen, Keiara Knightly(sp?), Ioan Gufford, etc.
At first I didn't think I was going to watch this movie, after all, it was just another Arthur remake, right? Then one night, I said "Aw, heck with it." and set my DVR to record it. Well, Dave started it up like, the next night, and we sat down and watched it.
Let me just say that this is no typical King Arthur story. The Knights weren't these wonderful, handsome, flawless men that fought for truth, honor, and God. Heck no, they were somewhat brutish, some where right pigheaded, and they were Pagans! I know, holy horse flanks, Batman! (Oh, and Lancealot was pretty good-looking, but shhhhhh )
Then let's take Gwenivere and Merlin. Whoa, nelly! She's one heck of a spitfire that isn't afraid to get down and dirty with the boys. You go girl! Of course Merlin is a rather mysterious figure, called a "dark wizard" in this, but hey, he is basically the Shaman leader of the Britain natives. A source of sage wisdom, this character. He sees Arthur for the leader he is and basically says, "I got the muscle, but you have to will to see this through."
So if you've seen this movie, what do you think of it? Do you think it's closer to the true myths of Arthur, or is it just another fairytale? Personally, I thought it was well done and well researched, and I'm glad I recorded it.

I loved the movie! Also, it follows more in line with common sense/history that Merlin was a druid/shaman as would have been one of two paths for Gaulish men of his day to take. Finally, its about time the Guenivere was portrayed as kicking some ass...not that women did a whole lot of that back then, mind you, but in her part of the land, they certainly could hold their own!

I haven't seen this one yet, but will have to seek it out. It sounds more realistic and less idealized/Xtianized than previous versions of the Arthurian tales.
