It seems to me the chat room is becoming much more full of interesting people then when i first started checking it out (Not to say those who were there before are not interesting, just that it was a bit slow, hehe). Course, i could have merely come in when things were slow, but it's nice to see the new faces with the open hearts...now how do we discourage those bots? i encourage people to come up with topics. Have fun with the chat and explore yourself and others!
Unfortunately, kridina, there's nothing we can do about the bots. They are independent computer programs that just bounce around Yahoo spitting out stupid messages. Yahoo doesn't seem to care to do anything about them either.
The best defense against them is the Y Tunnel program which can be set to auto-ignore known or suspected spam and porn bots. How it works is by associating the name with known bots and/or scanning the profile IDs entering the chatroom looking for objects associated with known spam. If it knows the name is a bot, it auto-iggies it. If it suspects from the profile that it is a bot, it auto-iggies it. I love the program and it works wonders.
As far as coming up with topics, Dave and I have encouraged everyone to come up with topics to discuss and not solely rely on us to do this. As you can tell from the site, I do a lot of research and sometimes my brain just gets tired.
In response to the bots, there is a hand little program out there called ytunnel. ytunnel allows you to iggy the pesky bots and remove them from your screen forever and a day. It has to be purchesed but well worth the cost.
Call me pessimistic, but I think Yahoo allows those bots in so that suckers will buy that program to get rid of them ^-^
It's just like in the ol' days when virus' used to be released, and then the person that released it would sell you the fix for it. At least that's what I've been told. *shrug*

But that's assuming you are going to pay for it. We have a working code that gets the program up and running at no cost. So to Yahoo!
